Volunteer of the Month honors settled in the Strohmier family with grandmother
Carolyn and granddaughter Mallory sharing the Reid Hospital & Health Care
Services accolade.
Carolyn Strohmier, a Richmond area resident, has volunteered since June, 2005, and is a regular in the Pharmacy and the OCC lobby. She reached 500 volunteer hours at Reid this year.
Mallory Strohmier, from the New Paris, Ohio, area, has been a Junior Volunteer since 2003, completing more than 440 hours of service. With an at-large assignment, Mallory might find herself serving on any patient unit on any given day. A further mandate entrusts her with much of the training of new Junior Volunteers.
"Carolyn always has a huge smile going on, and she has one of the most positive 'can do' attitudes that anyone has ever encountered at Reid," one nominator wrote.
"She doesn't hesitate to help others, she pitches in wherever she can before being asked, she greets everyone who comes in with a smile and friendly 'Can I help you?'" notes her citation. "Carolyn gets along with everybody!"
"Mallory always comes in singing a song and with a smile on her face," asserts one of her nominators.
"She is always happy to do whatever is asked of her – from the duties on the nursing units to helping in the training of new Junior Volunteers. Mallory is a joy to have in the volunteer program," affirms her award.
Carolyn, a 13-year EPSF – the Early Prevention of School Failure program – veteran with kindergartners at Highland Heights Elementary, has logged 70 years' membership in Middleboro United Methodist Church and 50 years in Delta Theta Tau Sorority.
A member of the Red Hat Society, Carolyn collects Noah's Arks and enjoys playing cards.
Mallory, Girl Scout, National Honor Society member and '08 Seton High School Valedictorian, works at McDonald's and helps with special projects for the Catholic community. Her hobbies include volleyball and singing.
"It is a privilege to be volunteer of the month and especially nice to share the title with my granddaughter," Carolyn said. "The people I volunteer with are wonderful, and I love the rewards of helping people. I'm thrilled to be able to do it!"
"It is awesome to be volunteer of the month with my grandma," reflects Mallory. "Most of my volunteer projects are short term. I like volunteering at Reid because it is all year round."
