January’s Volunteer of the Month at Reid Hospital & Health Care Services has made an outstanding record from which nominators cite high C.A.R.E. standards and an unfailing willingness to go above and beyond.
Emily Myers, a Randolph Southern High School student who expects to begin college in the fall, has accumulated 420 hours since beginning her Junior Volunteer commitment in April 2002
“She always has a smile, is willing to help anyone with anything and is a pleasure to work with,” reports a typical nomination. “She is an outstanding citizen.”
Another sums up: “Emily is a blessing. She is well liked and mature.”
The Lynn-area resident was chosen to represent the White Water Valley in the REMC Washington, D.C., tour and is a member of the National Honor Society who represents her school on its Academic Team.
A seasonal worker at Sickles Tree Farm, Myers finds time to work in the Lions Club Kids Program and in the Kids Club sponsored by local churches. She is a Student Council member and participates in the Foreign Language, 4-H, FFA and Life clubs.
Myers and her family -- father, Thomas, mother, Suzan, and brother, Aaron -- attend the Spartanburg United Methodist Church. She is an avocational pianist.
Junior Volunteers help out on the nursing units and at the information desk. They deliver flowers, place magazines in waiting rooms and take "lost wheelchairs back to their homes".
