December Volunteer finds ER niche

Hazel FortnerBrightening the lot of clerks and patients in Emergency Department registration, combined with helpfulness and dedication, has earned the December Volunteer of the Month honor for Earl McIntosh.

“Earl comes in smiling and ready to get to work,” wrote one appreciative team member of the Richmond-area resident. “He’s quick-witted, amusing and able to do anything we ask of him.”

McIntosh, who retired from York Stamping after 32 years, is also a Food Pantry volunteer. He joined the Reid volunteer deployment 16 months ago. His wife of 49 years, Roberta, is also a Reid volunteer in the Gift Shop and Information Desk venues.

“He’s always right there to lend a hand. Earl truly makes a difference in our department, and I can’t imagine not having him here,” concludes one nomination.

“I’m tickled to death,” said McIntosh of his selection. “I appreciate it very much, but it’s a two-way street. In ED registration you’ve got a lot of nice people to work with.”

The McIntosh family includes two children and three grandchildren; his hobbies extend to woodworking and flea markets.
