September Volunteer loves chance to serve

Ethel HutchensEthel Hutchens, a Richmond area resident who volunteers with Emergency registration and the Mother-Baby Care Center, has been honored as the September Volunteer of the Month at Reid Hospital & Health Care Services.

One nominator noted, “She loves her opportunity to serve Reid.”

“I have observed Ethel volunteering a lot of her time at Reid. She does not boast about her service to the hospital,” affirmed a nomination from the community.

According to her citation, “Ethel gives of her time to help others. She goes about her duties quietly, without complaint or expecting reward.”

Since beginning as a Reid volunteer in August 1997, Hutchens has contributed more than 1,500 hours of service.

A former clerk at Baptist Medical Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., Hutchens also volunteers at Rosewood Terrace and is active in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She also enjoys reading and bowling.

The two Hutchens daughters also live in east central Indiana; there are additionally three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
