A. Woods, M.D., orthopedic surgeon, has begun seeing patients in the Reid Orthopedic Center
on the new Reid Hospital campus just off Reid Parkway in Richmond.
Dr. Woods, whose multiple certifications include that of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, comes to Richmond from Hays, Kansas, where he was in orthopedic practice. Dr. Woods brings experience in arthroscopic management of shoulder and knee injuries, joint replacements and sports injuries.
He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
Among his numerous publications is "Knee Injuries in Intercollegiate Football: An Analytical Study." He has delivered his presentation "The Effect of Prophylactic Knee Braces in Intercollegiate Football" to the National Athletic Trainers Association and to the American Society of Orthotics and Prosthetics.
A 1975-79 football player for the University of Kansas, Dr. Woods was inducted to the Kansas Shrine Bowl Hall of Fame in 2007.
Licensed in Indiana, Dr. Woods graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1983 and completed internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. He supplemented that training with a Fellowship in Sports Medicine at the University of Florida. Dr. Woods has been a team physician for Division II Fort Hays State University and covered 15 area high schools in western Kansas. He is masters trained in the Oxford partial knee replacement as well.
When out of the office, Dr. Woods often can be found riding his Harley or hunting.
The Reid Orthopedic Center, a service of Reid Hospital, will be adding more physicians to its staff in the near future.
